Words of Life-Keys To The Kingdom
From Pastor Stephen

“1  Hear my cry, O God; Attend to my prayer. 2  From the end of the earth I will cry to You, When my heart is overwhelmed; Lead me to the rock that is higher than I. 3  For You have been a shelter for me, A strong tower from the enemy. 4  I will abide in Your tabernacle forever; I will trust in the shelter of Your wings.”  Psalm 61:1-4 (NKJV)

When King David wrote this psalm he had lost the KIngdom to his 3rd son, Absalom who had rebelled against him. Absalom had stolen his throne and murdered his son, Amnon (who was a rapist) and led the nation in rebellion against King David. King David and all of his household had to flee for their lives.  Here he was in a cave having gone from living in splendor with people following him and now he was on the run hiding out in a cave, with nothing.   Not a good moment in David's life.  In fact David says it very clearly in this Psalm that his heart is "overwhelmed." The Hebrew for this word "Overwhelmed" means that "darkness or calamity seemed to have covered or enveloped his soul." He saw no light, he had no comfort.

Have you ever been there? Ever been to a place where you saw no light and had no comfort?

That is when David cries out to God to lead him to "the rock that is higher than I"   What a wonderful word picture that is-lead me to "Jesus-who is The Rock" Lead me God to Jesus, who is higher than I am, victorious Jesus, who can lift me out of the circumstances of my life.  Lead me to Jesus The Rock who has been in the past a "shelter for me. A strong tower from the enemy."

When you are feeling overwhelmed, don't pretend you have it all together, be honest with God and cry out to him as you are.  Ask Him to rescue you, to give you the strength you need to go on and pick you out of the "miry clay" that life's circumstances have brought you to.  Be real with God-he knows you and sees you and loves you.  So don't pretend you have it all together, worship God in Spirit and "Truth" call on God today to "lead you to the Rock that is higher than you."  God will lift you up and give you the strength you need to go forward into the plans and purposes He has prepared for you to walk in.  Jesus is and will be your Strong Tower of protection and you can abide in the shelter of His wings, covered in His love and care instead of being covered in "darkness and calamity."

Psalm 40:1-3 (NKJV)

1  I waited patiently for the LORD; And He inclined to me, And heard my cry. 2  He also brought me up out of a horrible pit, Out of the miry clay, And set my feet upon a rock, And established my steps. 3  He has put a new song in my mouth-- Praise to our God; Many will see it and fear, And will trust in the LORD.
